Interpretation | Low creatinine clearance indicates decreased glomerular filtration as with decreased renal plasma flow (prerenal), glomerulonephritis, and obstructive nephropathies. Kidney injury, as with shock and drugs (aminoglycosides, mercurials, amphotericin, and others) will decrease creatinine clearance.
Container type | gel tube
Amount to Collect | 3 mL | ||||
Collection Instructions | Refrigerate urine during collection. Serum should be collected within 24 hours of urine specimen. |
||||
Sample type | Clotted Blood
Special instructions | Start 12- or 24-hour urine collection on the evening prior to drawing of blood sample. At the end of the 12- or 24-hour urine collection, draw blood specimen for creatinine. Send BOTH urine and blood to the lab. Patient's height and weight (inches, pounds) MUST accompany specimens, so correction of creatinine clearance to 1.73 m2 can be calculated.
