Principle Urine is concentrated by centrifugation and plated on media that support the growth of fungi and inhibits bacterial contamination. Negative cultures are reported after 4 weeks. Positive results are reported when fungi are recovered.
Patient Preparation Prepare patient according to the directions for a "clean-catch" urine given under "Bacteriology Culture, Urine."
Container type sterile, screw-capped container
Collection Instructions Collect 25 – 50 ml of clean-catch, first morning urine sample in a sterile, screw-capped container.
Sample type Urine. Catheterized and suprapubic aspirates are also acceptable. Do not collect 24 hour specimens.
Synonyms Fungus Culture, Urine;Urine Cultue;
Stability Deliver to the Microbiology Laboratory (2M33) as soon as possible or hold at 4°C until delivery.
Additional information Do not collect 24 hour specimens.
