Principle Tissues are minced or homogenized and plated on culture media that support the growth of fungi. Negative cultures are reported after 4 weeks. Positive results are reported when fungi are recovered.
Container type sterile, screw-capped container
Collection Instructions Tissue biopsies must be collected and sent to the laboratory in sterile screw-cap tubes or containers such as those used for sputum. The biopsy must be kept moist and handled aseptically. Collect on sterile or gauze barely moistened with non-bacteriostatic saline. Fold Telfa or gauze over specimen and place in sterile screw-cap tube or specimen container. Do not float in saline or place in fixative.
