| Additional information | The presence of IgG or IgA antibodies against the mannan antigen of S. cerevisiae in patients with gastrointestinal complaints is associated with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease. Although the specificity is relatively high (90-95%), the test may also be positive in small number of patients with gluten sensitive enteropathy, primary biliary cirrhosis, and Behcet's disease. The sensitivity of the test is low (45-60%), therefore a negative test does not rule out the diagnosis. |
