| Additional information | Total urine protein is determined by the pyrogallol red method using a human albumin standard. This method is effective in detecting albumin and non- albumin proteins, including immunoglobulins. 24 hour urine protein excretion may be increased in a variety of conditions including renal disease, Bence Jones proteinuria, amyloidosis, hemorrhage, systemic infections, heart failure, dehydration, starvation, strenuous exercise, pregnancy, sickle cell disease, exposure to extreme cold and psychological stress. |
