Collection Instructions Specify suspected parasite so appropriate method can be performed. For suspected Strongyloides stercoralis infection, submit stool as well.

Additional information Parasites and methods of detection:

Ascaris lumbricoides larva, Echinococcus, Paragonimus, and Strongyloides stercoralis detected by wet mount.

Cryptosporidium detected by acid fast smear.

Microsporidia detected by modified Trichrome stain.

Toxoplasma gondii detected by Giemsa stain.

A concentration procedure will be performed on sputum if appropriate, and at an additional charge.
