| Additional information | HIV susceptibility testing (genotyping or phenotyping) should be reserved for patients who are: 1. Failing treatment requiring a change in regimen (prior to change in regimen) 2. Pregnant or 3. Have acute/recent HIV infection (w/in 3-6 months) in areas with high levels of transmission of resistance viruses (usually to AZT/3TC). Phenotyping requires a viral load > 500 copies/mL.
