| Additional information | For CSF, a wet mount of the concentrated fluid is perfomed and billed separately. It may be possible to culture Acanthamoeba or Naegleria species, but diagnosis is more rapid by examination of the CSF by Giemsa stain or wet mount with phase contrast microscopy. For culture, order a Microbiology Special Sendout Test and indicate Acanthamoeba/Naeglaria Culture in the Test Description field. Prior authorization is required for culture of Brown and Toland patients. |
