HIV 1,2 Antibody Screen
|In House Availability||Monday-Friday (day shift). Note: Confirmatory WB performed every other Wednesday with results available by Friday|
|Collection Instructions||The "ID Serology and Molecular Testing" requisition provides a place for the ordering provider to sign attesting that the patient consented to testing.
If orders are placed electronically the ordering provider should document patient consent in the medical record.

|Additional information||Testing detects antibodies to both HIV-1 & HIV-2.
If the antibody test is negative in a patient with possible acute HIV infection, order test HIV-1 RNA Quantitative by bDNA (HIVB).
If a request for HIV Antibody is received without a signature attesting that the patient consented to testing a note will accompany the result reminding the ordering provider to document consent in the patient record.
