| Additional information | HBsAb is a marker of immunity due to HBV infection at some time in the past or to immunization with hepatitis B vaccine. It has no role in the diagnosis of acute HBV infection, which should employ HBsAg and HBc IgM Antibody. The in-house qualitative assay, when positive, reflects and antibody level of ≥ 10 mIU/mL. This represents an adequate protective antibody level in dialysis patients. Quantitation is not required for this population. Quantitation (send-out to Quest) may be useful in patients with Hepatitis B who are receiving Hepatitis B immune globulin therapeutically. The positive cut-off of the in-house assay is too low to be useful in this setting. |
