| Additional information | This is a qualitative test; no quantitative interpretation should be placed upon the height of the antibody response. Unlike elevated IgA or IgM titers which may represent past infection, elevated levels of IgG antibody correlate with a positive gastric culture. However, a positive result may also be found in healthy, asymptomatic individuals, and the serologic test is most useful when the result is negative, which suggests little likelihood of infection. | ||||||
