If a normal rise following metyrapone is not obtained, the adequacy of metyrapone blockade should be verified by checking a simultaneous serum cortisol level. If the cortisol levels exceeds 5 µg/dL, suppression was probably inadequate, and the test should be repeated. To convert µg/dL to µmol/L (SI units) multiply by 0.029. |
