|Collection Instructions||Submit 1 teaspoonful unpreserved, refrigerated stool, < 24 hours old or an SAF-preserved sample. For SAF samples fill to red line on container.

|UCSF Rejection Criteria||Unpreserved stool received > 1 hour after collection. Stool in a preservative other than SAF. More than one sample received within 24 hours.|

|Additional information||A screen for Coccidia (Isospora, Cryptosporidia and Cyclospora) is included in the routine stool examination for Parasites (see Parasites-Stool)
An acid-fast smear from a concentrate is examined for Cryptosporidia only if specifically requested and at an additional charge.
If a smear for Cryptosporidum is requested independent of a routine "O&P" request, there will be an additional charge for preparing a stool concentrate for staining. See also Cyclospora and Microsporidia.
