|Method||Giemsa banding and brightfield microscopy|
|Collection Instructions||Preferred POC specimen is fetal skin (30 mg) chorionic villi (25 mg) and samples of internal organs such as kidney, liver, and/or lung samples.
For non-POC specimens, skin or other tissue biopsies are also acceptable. If multiple sites are requested. Indicate on tube origin of tissue(s).
Complete and submit a "UCSF Reproductive Genetics Lab Results" or a "UCSF Cytogenetic Requisition" form and send with the samples.

Keep samples at room temperature.

|Reflex?||If an abnormality is detected the Director will determine the appropriate additional studies to be performed to characterize the abnormality.
Additional testing may be omitted if specifically requested when the sample is submitted for cytogenetic analysis.
