Additional information The calculated result for VLDL is not reported by the laboratory but can be estimated by dividing the triglyceride value by 5 (triglyceride/5; also see the calculation for LDL Cholesterol). When triglycerides exceed 400 mg/dL, this calculation may overestimate the VLDL and should not be used. Precise measurement may require ultracentrifugation if the triglyceride level exceeds 400 mg/dL.
