Level Non-smokers Smokers
0- 3.0 µg/L 93.4% 81.2%
3.1- 5.0 µg/L 5.6% 15.0%
5.1-10.0 µg/L 0.9% 3.8%
> 10.0 µg/L 0.1% None

The test contributes little in following patients for recurrence after colon cancer, with an overall sensitivity of 59% and a specificity of 84%. Sensitivity was highest (76-78%) for essentially unsalvageable patients with liver metastasis, but low (29-45%) for patients with only local recurrence (Moertel CG et al. JAMA 1993;270:943).
