| Units | ng/mL |
| Normal range | 25-100 ng/mL |
| Synonyms | Wellbutrin |
| Turn around times | Test performed Monday-Saturday. Turnaround time: 1-3 days. |
| Additional information | Because of unavailability of a pure reference preparation, the hydroxymetabolite is no longer reported. Clinical use: Buproprion is used to treat patients with depression. Therapeutic drug monitoring is useful to optimize dose and avoid toxicity. Maximum antidepressant response observed at trough plasma concentrations of 50-100 ng/ml with virtually no response below 25 ng/ml. If the volume of sample submitted is at least 1/2 the published minimum volume, this assay will be performed on a 1:2 dilution of the sample. Following dilution, lower levels of this drug will not be detected due to a two-fold decrease in analytical sensitivity. |
