| Collection Instructions | Blood: Fill a minimum of 4 circles on the Newborn Screening Specimen Collection Card and allow to air dry for 3 hours. keep sample away from direct sunlight and heat. Peel off one barcode label from the Newborn Screening Specimen Collection Card and apply to the Biopterin Specimen Collection form. Urine: Collect 10 mL urine. Protect collection container from light by wrapping in aluminum foil. Provide pink copy of Biopterin Specimen Collection form to parents. Send the Biopterin Specimen Collection form, Newborn Screening Specimen Collection Card, and urine sample to laboratory for shipment. Click here for printable copy of instructions |

| Processing notes | Freeze the Newborn Screening Specimen Collection Card in a plastic bag at -20C. Transfer urine into light protected container. Apply the second bar code label from the Newborn Screening Specimen Collection Card to the urine container. Wrap the urine sample with aluminum foil and freeze at -20C. Samples can only be shipped Monday-Thursday.
