| Additional information | This assay measures IgG anti-CMV antibodies and is a useful test for evaluation of prior CMV exposure. If the assay is positive and there is a clinical need to determine if there is an acute infection, assays for CMV IgM antibodies and/or PCR for the CMV virus could be ordered as sendout tests. A single positive sample provides evidence of prior infection. This test is NOT FDA approved for screening of blood, tissue, or organ donors. Note: Sera are not retained for comparative testing with a later sample. |
