The MAID procedure measures IgG antibodies recognizing 14 type-specific pneumococcal polysaccharide antigens included in the polyvalent vaccine.

Evaluation of response to vaccinatioon is best accomplished by com paring Pre-vaccination levels and levels obtained 4-6 weeks post vaccination. A 2-fold to 4-fold increase in 70% of the pneumococcal serotypes vaccinated for in immunocompetent patients between the ages of 5 and 65 years. Adults over the age of 65 may respond with less than 2-fold increases in antibody levels.
