Objectives
To identify areas of diagnostic difficulties and challenges in everyday surgical pathology and cytopathology practice, and to provide expert insight on selected topics through didactic lectures, tutorial sessions and interactive reviews. Each day's lectures are centered on a specialty theme: breast pathology (Thursday); gynecologic pathology (Friday); and genitourinary pathology (Saturday). Lunchtime video tutorials cover a larger spectrum of specialties in surgical pathology.
This year the course will be offering a new method of educational activity in the form of Self-Assessment Modules (SAM). Participants can receive additional CME credit by taking a multiple choice exam based on content presented earlier in the day. The moderators will then discuss the questions and answers with the audience. Audience members are encouraged to engage the moderators with their own questions during this review.
We expect that at the end of this course, the participants will be able to
1. Identify common mistakes and pitfalls in the diagnosis of breast, gynecologic and genitourinary diseases in everyday surgical pathology
2. Recognize mimickers of specific diseases in each specialty and learn to interpret special studies that will allow easier differential diagnosis
3. Learn the pertinent histopathological characteristics of diseases in question that will allow unequivocal diagnosis
4. Identify new and additional components of the pathology report that will improve the clinical value of the pathology report.
5. Learn about the recent changes/modifications in the pathological classification of diseases or lesions
