The UCSF Transfusion Service provides comprehensive support for a wide range of routine and complex medical and surgical clinical services for adult, pediatric, neonatal and obstetrical patients, at three facilities- UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus, UCSF Medical Center at Mt. Zion and UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay (http://www.ucsfhealth.org/about/). The Transfusion Service also provides oversight for Tissue Banking activities at these sites, and supports all solid organ transplant programs through innovative integration of transplant workflows with blood bank management of organ and vessel storage and issue processes. The Department of Laboratory Medicine, in collaboration with Blood Centers of the Pacific and Blood Systems Research Institute, sponsors an ACGME-accredited Fellowship Training Program in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. Transfusion Medicine Division is actively involved in training medical students, pathology residents and medical technologists. Faculty and Staff participate in the development of research protocols involving blood products, and provide medical and laboratory support for a variety of clinical trials and collaborative translational research in Transfusion Medicine.
