Cytopath Fellowship 2015 - UC Davis

Cytopathology Fellowship Position 2015-2016

This one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program in diagnostic cytopathology
is designed to provide comprehensive training in diagnostic cytopathology,
including fine-needle aspiration biopsy with surgical pathology and clinical
correlation. The fellow will be exposed to a wide spectrum of gynecological and
non-gynecological materials including performance and interpretation of
fine-needle aspiration biopsies.  In addition to cytopathology
responsibilities, the fellow will have an elective rotation and designated time
to complete a research project. Rotation in the molecular diagnostic laboratory
is encouraged.	Other special training opportunities include ultrasound-guided
FNA training workshop paid by the department, and an option to participate in
the UC Davis health informatics certificate program, if desired. The fellow
will be responsible for weekly cytology conferences. Candidate must be
board-eligible or certified in Anatomic Pathology at the time s/he begins the
fellowship program.

The UC Davis Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has over 40
faculty members, provides service in all major subspecialties of anatomic and
clinical pathology, and is active in basic science, translational, and clinical
research.  The department is actively expanding its molecular/genomic programs,
and is the academic home for the health informatics graduate programs and the
UC Davis Health System biorepositories.  Educational programs include a
14-person residency program and specialty fellowships in hematopathology,
surgical pathology and transfusion medicine, in addition to cytopathology.  The
University of California, Davis, Medical Center, one of the nations Top 100
Hospitals, is a 576 bed academic medical center, with the distinction of having
an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.	A new pavilion completed in
2012 added hospital beds, operating rooms, frozen section suite and clinical
laboratories, and emergency treatment stations.

personal statement, letter of interest or intent, and three (3) letters of
recommendation (one must be from your Residency Program Director and addressed
to Alaa Afify, M.D., Director, Cytopathology Fellowship).
