Cytopathology Fellowship 2014 - U. of Arkansas

OPENING: CYTOPATHOLOGY FELLOWSHIP POSITION FOR 2014-2015 
(LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS)

This one-year program includes the cytopathology laboratories at the University
of Arkansas forMedical Sciences and the contiguous Central Arkansas Veterans
Health Services. Opportunities toresolve diagnostic problems through
interaction with the laboratories of electron microscopy,hematopathology and
flow cytometry, as well as close cooperation with the division of
surgicalpathology enhance the fellow's experience. The material available
for study and diagnosis includes 7,000nongynecologic specimens, of which
approximately 1,800 are fine needle aspirations.Almost half of fine needle
aspirations are performed by the pathology department, including the
cytopathology fellow.  An active rapid on-site interpretation service is in
place for the remaining fine needle aspirations which are performed
predominantly by interventional radiology and the divisions of pulmonary and GI
medicine.  Proficiency in obtaining, preparing and interpreting aspirate
samples is a major focus of our program,and close interaction with the clinical
services is an essential part of the experience.Our 12,000 gynecologic
specimens are predominantly thin preparation based and represent a high-risk
population.Extensive interaction with our active oncology service is an
important part of this program.The fellow willbe involved in a rich teaching
conference schedule in several areas of pathology,and comprehensive teaching
sets complement this training.

The fellow is given gradually increasing, supervised responsibility, and is
expected to participate inthe teaching of cytotechnology students and pathology
residents.The fellowwill participatein the research activities of the division,
leading to presentations at national/international meetings, and publishing.We
strive is to train cytopathologists with well-rounded skills and the
flexibility to pursue any career goals.
