Molecular Genetic Path Fellowship 2009 - Cedars-Sinai
MOLECULAR GENETIC FELLOWSHIP Highlights of the Program One position for one year in length ACGME accredited Directors : Jean Lopategui, M.D., Rhona Schreck, PhD. The fellow will be provided with comprehensive training in the Department of Pathology and the Medical Genetics Institute. State of the art Molecular Laboratory assays and comprehensive clinical genetics and genetic counseling are included in the broad training. Experience will be gained in developing, performing and interpreting molecular diagnostic and prognostic testing. The fellow will become familiar with new and established methods in molecular diagnostics including Southern blot, PCR, quantitative PCR, pharmacogenomics, cytogenetics, fluorescent in situ hybridization, and gene arrays. Research opportunities are available in prostate and lung cancer using advanced molecular techniques in the laboratory of Dr. David Agus, a leading translational physician scientist with very active research programs in the use of advanced molecular techniques for the evaluation of various neoplasms. In addition, ample research opportunities are available in the recently consolidated molecular pathology department in the areas of hematopathology, oncology, infectious disease, and genetics. The fellow is expected to have a strong foundation in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, keen interest in Molecular Pathology and translational research, and become involved in ongoing clinico-pathologic research projects in an area of interest. It is expected one or two research projects will be completed during the fellowship.
