Surg Path Fellowship 2010 & 2011 - U. of Colorado

The University of Colorado has an unexpected opening for July 2010 and is
accepting applications for July 2011 for our Surgical Pathology Fellowship.

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO
SURGICAL PATHOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
JULY 2010 AND JULY 2011

Description:
This is a one year fellowship program with 2 positions per year which provides
the trainee with advanced training and experience in general surgical pathology
at a busy academic medical center. The department sees approximately 21,000
surgical pathology specimens per year and an additional 4500 non-gynecologic
cytology specimens, as well as 1500 fine needle aspirations. The fellowship
consists of 10 months of structured training, predominantly as a
"hot-seat" fellowship, such that the fellow previews all surgical
cases and initiates appropriate workup of them. Additionally, the fellow is
responsible for reviewing all outside cases sent to this institution for
consultation and review, as well as graduated responsibility for covering the
frozen section laboratory. Additional opportunities include teaching medical
students in small group sessions, oversight of residents in the gross room and
in preparation of cases for signout, and presentation at selected
interdisciplinary conferences. The remaining months of the fellowship can be
individually tailored to meet the needs of the fellow and spent in clinical or
basic research or used for more rigorous training in various areas of surgical
pathology.

Requirements:
Applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 years of post-graduate training
at an ACGME-accredited residency program.

Stipend:
