Transfusion Medicine Fellowship - UC Davis

2010 BLOOD BANK/IMMUNOHEMATOLOGY FELLOWSHIP 
IMMEDIATE OPENING FOR JULY 2010
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER
DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MEDICINE
PARTNERED WITH BLOODSOURCE

Description: 
UCDMC is a 500+ bed University Hospital and Level I trauma center in Northern
California with active Hematology, Oncology, Pediatric, Neonatal, OB and
Cardiac Surgery services. The Hospital transfuses 30,000 blood products and
performs 400 apheresis procedures each year. The Apheresis service does
therapeutic plasmapheresis and a variety of cytapheresis procedures. The Center
for Regenerative Cures is actively involved in cellular therapy research.
BloodSource is a large community-based blood center with 190,000 donors/yr,
pre-transfusion Infectious Disease Testing services, HLA testing and a regional
Immunohematology Reference Lab.

The 12 month program is divided as follows:
Transfusion Service Intensive  1 month
Apheresis Service Intensive - 1 month
Transfusion Service/Apheresis Combined Rotation  5 months, five blocks of 1
month each
Hematopathology  1 month
Stem Cell Research Elective  1 month
Donor Center  1 month
Immunohematology Reference Lab  1 month
HLA Lab  1 month

We plan to train Transfusion Medicine physicians who will be leaders capable of
ensuring the most effective treatments, the safest transfusions and the most
sophisticated cellular therapies. 

Requirements: 
Applicants may come from residencies in Pathology, Internal Medicine,
Pediatrics, Anesthesiology & certain other disciplines as defined by the
American Board of Pathology.  Pathology applicants should have completed either
a combined AP/CP residency or a CP residency.

Stipends: 
Appropriate to postgraduate levels established by the University of California
at Davis.

Deadlines: These Deadlines only pertain to future Fellowship openings, not the
immediate 2010 opening.  
December 1 (19 months before matriculation): Receipt of CV or Standardized Form
January 1 (18 months before matriculation): Receipt of Letters of recommendation
February 28th (16 months before matriculation): Completion of Interviews
March 1st (16 months before matriculation): Issuance of Offers
