Cytopath Fellowship 2010 - Ohio State U.

OPENING FOR 2010-2011
Cytopathology Fellowship

Description: This is a one-year cytopathology training program at The Ohio
State University Medical Center, which includes the Arthur G. James Cancer
Hospital and Solove Research Institute. The cytology laboratory performs
approximately 45,000 tests per year. This includes 5,700 non-gynecologic, and
about 2,600 FNA specimens. The cytopathology fellow will acquire personalized
training in performing and interpreting FNA under the supervision of a staff
cytopathologist. Interpretation experience is gained by preliminary sign-out
of non-gynecologic and gynecologic specimens, and gynecologic Pap
smear/cervical biopsy correlations. The Cytopathology Fellow will also have
the opportunity to get hands-on research experience associated with
cytopathology.	The department pays for the fellows to receive three online
Progressive Evaluation of Competency (PEC) exams (baseline, mid-year, and final
level of knowledge and overall competency in cytopathology) over their
fellowship year administered by the American Society of Cytopathology.
Fellows have full access to our large surgical pathology cases and our large
collection of cytology-surgical pathology teaching sets. At the end of the
training, our fellows will be fully prepared for either academic or private
practice. Strengths of the program include the diversity of the cytopathology
faculty as well as their strengths in gynecologic pathology, gynecologic and
non-gynecologic cytology, flow cytometry DNA analysis and image analysis, and
fine needle aspiration cytology.
