Hematology/Hematopathology Fellowship


Program Description:  A 1-year ACGME-approved fellowship is offered with
comprehensive training in Hematology/Hematopathology.  The fellowship provides
ample opportunity to develop expertise in bone marrow and lymph node pathology,
peripheral smear/body fluid interpretation, instrumentation,
hemoglobinopathies, coagulation, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry,
cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics under the supervision of several
experienced hematopathologists and a molecular / cytogeneticist.  Fellows
participate in the daily activities of the laboratory and are encouraged to
participate in administrative, developmental and investigational projects in
areas of interest.  Participation in departmental conferences, clinical rounds,
and teaching activities including residents and medical students is also
encouraged.  Staff includes five Board-certified hematopathologists in a
department with 20 doctorate-level staff.  Hartford Hospital is an 867-bed ,
university-affiliated, tertiary care community hospital serving primarily adult
patients.  Diagnostic services are also provided for the Connecticut Childrens
Medical Center (located on the same campus), which provides a wide variety of
pediatric hematopathology case materials.

Requirements:  Three or more years of training in AP and/or CP are required. 
Applicants must have passed USMLE Step 3.
