Research and Clinical Interests

My current research focuses on the development, implementation, and dissemination of a pediatric transfusion medicine curriculum for residents and fellows. I am one of four recipients of the Pediatric Transfusion Medicine Academic Awards (PedsTMAA) sponsored and funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. In addition to medical education, I am interested in pediatric transfusion medicine clinical research. I am specifically interested in the effects of chronic transfusion therapy and transfusional iron overload in sickle cell disease and Thalassemia patients. In addition, I am interested in the evaluation of long-term transfusion-associated microchimerism in critically ill infants, children, and adolescents.
